Grants For Stamps Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with a goal to promote the benefits of international exposure and fund underrepresented students with opportunities for a global education.
To fulfill our mission, we provide scholarships and grants for current college students who display an interest in studying or volunteering abroad. Our passport scholarships allow students to seek international programs which require a U.S. Passport.
Grants For Stamps Inc. was founded by LaSara D. Carter, who has always had an interest for exploring new countries and cultures as a Dual-Citizen and avid traveler herself.
LaSara obtained a B.A. in Public Administration and gained a greater deal of knowledge on non-profit operations during her M.P.A graduate studies. Along with her experience in public service and passion for traveling, LaSara acknowledged that there was a need for more students from underserved communities and diverse backgrounds to be afforded opportunities to study abroad. This prompted our founder to establish Grants For Stamps Inc. in 2021 and fulfill her first mission in creating an annual passport scholarship for Greensville County High School Seniors of her hometown in Emporia, VA.
LaSara's role as the organization's Executive Director is to expand scholarship donations to students nationwide and bring awareness to the educational benefits of learning beyond the classroom.
Marissa Robinson has served as Grants For Stamps' Board Chair since the inception of the organization in 2021.
Exploring new terrains and making lifelong memories has been a passion of Marissa’s since her childhood. After taking her first flight at 12 years old, wanderlust settled on her heart and she knew from then that she wanted to be a citizen of the world. With a B.A in Foreign Affairs and Women, Gender, and Sexuality, and a M.P.A in Education Policy, Marissa has followed her passion of empowering and supporting learners of all ages to meet their academic and personal goals.
Marissa believes that we are all made better and more empathetic by increased exposure to experiences and different cultures. She finds travel to be one of the critical tools to meeting this level of enlightenment and is honored to support Grants for Stamps in meeting this need.
“Beyond exploration, travelling enhances our understanding of the world, other cultures and ways of life, and helps us become better global citizens.” -Veronica Stoddart
